If you’re in the Orlando Metro area staring at a car with dents, rust, a cracked windshield, or accident or storm damage, you can still donate it. Orlando Auto Ally works with Heritage for the Blind, a real 501(c)(3), to accept vehicles in any cosmetic condition. Whether you’re in Conway, Pine Hills, Winter Park, Kissimmee, Altamonte Springs, or near UCF, we’ll help you turn that problem vehicle into meaningful support for people who are blind or visually impaired.
You don’t need to repair anything. Free towing will pick up your vehicle where it sits in Central Florida—running or not. Heritage for the Blind sells your car, often through auction or salvage, exactly as it is. Your deduction is based on the actual selling price after pickup, not how the car looks. Heavier damage often means a lower sale price and smaller deduction, but you’re still guaranteed a minimum $500 tax receipt. If it sells for more, you’ll receive IRS Form 1098-C for that higher amount. Orlando Auto Ally handles the details so you can clear your driveway and claim your tax benefits without spending a dollar on bodywork or glass repair.
How to get your free pickup scheduled
1. Tell us about your damaged vehicle
Share a quick description of your car’s condition—dents, rust, cracked windshield, storm or accident damage. From Lake Nona to Apopka, just provide the basics: year, make, model, where it’s parked, and whether it starts. Cosmetic or structural damage will not disqualify it; we just need an honest picture so we can plan the right tow.
2. Get a pickup time anywhere in Orlando Metro
Once we have your details, we schedule free towing that works with your calendar. We pick up from homes, apartments, and workplaces across Orlando, Winter Garden, Clermont, Sanford, and beyond. The tow truck can handle non-running, wrecked, or storm-damaged vehicles, so you don’t need to move or repair the car first.
3. Sign the title and hand off the keys
On pickup day, you’ll sign over the Florida title and hand the driver the keys if you still have them. If your car is badly damaged, the tow operator will safely load it as-is. We’ll guide you on any Florida DMV details so ownership transfers out of your name and you’re no longer responsible for the vehicle.
4. Heritage for the Blind sells your car as-is
Your damaged vehicle is sold in its current cosmetic condition, often at auction or for parts/salvage, depending on the extent of the body and glass damage. No repairs are done in your name, and you never pay a fee. The actual sale proceeds, after pickup, determine the final deductible amount for your tax purposes.
5. Receive your tax receipt and keep it for your return
You will receive a written tax receipt with at least a $500 value, even if your vehicle is heavily damaged. If the car sells for more than $500, you’ll be sent IRS Form 1098-C reflecting the higher sale price. Keep this with your tax records and share it with your tax preparer when filing your federal return.
6. Know your damaged car is now making a difference
Once the sale is complete, proceeds go to Heritage for the Blind to support services for people who are blind or visually impaired. That storm-damaged or accident-dented car in your driveway in Dr. Phillips or Hunters Creek turns into real help, and you’ve cleared space without paying for towing or repairs.
Potential complications to watch for
Missing or incorrect Florida title information
Tip: Even with heavy body damage, you still need proper ownership documents. If your Florida title is lost, damaged, or has an old address, let us know early. We’ll explain what the DMV typically needs so you can request a replacement title and avoid delays in scheduling your Orlando pickup.
Severe storm or flood damage not mentioned up front
Tip: Orlando weather can be rough, and flood or hail damage is common. If your car has water or major storm damage, tell us right away. It won’t disqualify the donation, but it can affect how it’s towed and sold. Being clear helps prevent surprises for the tow company and speeds up the whole process.
Car blocked in, no access for the tow truck
Tip: A wrecked or undrivable car often gets pushed into tight spots. Before your pickup in places like Baldwin Park or Ocoee, make sure a tow truck can access the vehicle. Clear other cars if possible and describe any parking garage or gated community restrictions so the driver can plan the right equipment and route.
Unrealistic expectations about tax deduction amount
Tip: Body damage, rust, or cracked glass can lower the sale price, which can lower your deduction. You’re guaranteed a minimum $500 receipt, but beyond that the amount depends on actual sale proceeds. We’ll be transparent so you understand that serious cosmetic and structural damage usually means a more modest tax benefit.
