If you’re ready to donate your car and want the 2024 tax deduction, here’s the key fact: the IRS uses your pickup date as your donation date. If Orlando Auto Ally and Heritage for the Blind pick up your vehicle on or before December 31, 2024, your deduction applies to your 2024 taxes—even if the vehicle sells and your IRS Form 1098-C arrives in early 2025. Your fastest path: complete our secure 2-minute form or call, schedule free towing, sign your title at pickup, and you’re done.
Orlando Auto Ally coordinates local, licensed tow trucks across Orlando Metro—from Winter Park, Altamonte Springs and Casselberry to Kissimmee, Hunter’s Creek, Lake Nona, Conway, Waterford Lakes, and Clermont. Most donors in the Orlando area can get a same-day or next-business-day pickup, Monday through Saturday. Your car doesn’t need to run, pass inspection, or have current registration. Proceeds from your donated vehicle support Heritage for the Blind, a 501(c)(3) serving people who are blind or visually impaired. If you’re in Orlando and you’ve decided to donate, this is your fastest, IRS-compliant way to lock in a year-end tax deduction.

You choose a time that works for you. For most Orlando Metro addresses, we can offer same-day or next-business-day pickup as December 31 approaches.
Step 3 – Free tow truck pickup at your Orlando address
Same-day or next business day in most casesA licensed tow truck comes to your home, work, or storage lot anywhere in Orlando Metro—Downtown, Baldwin Park, Dr. Phillips, Winter Garden, Oviedo, and more. This pickup date is your IRS donation date. As long as we pick up by December 31, your donation counts for the 2024 tax year.
Step 4 – Sign title and hand over keys (if available)
5–10 minutes at pickupAt pickup, you sign the vehicle title over to Heritage for the Blind and remove your personal belongings and license plates if required in Florida. The driver will walk you through where to sign. Once the tow truck leaves with your vehicle, your donation is complete for IRS timing purposes.
Step 5 – Vehicle sale and tax receipt mailing
Within 30 days of saleHeritage for the Blind transports and sells your vehicle. After the sale, they mail you a written acknowledgement or IRS Form 1098-C, typically within 30 days of the sale date. Your allowable deduction is generally based on the gross sale price, which you’ll see clearly on your receipt.
Year-end tax deduction facts
Pickup date = donation date
For tax purposes, the IRS uses the date Heritage for the Blind takes possession of your vehicle—your physical pickup date—as the date of your donation. If your car is picked up by December 31, it applies to that tax year.
Form 1098-C or written acknowledgment
After your car is sold, Heritage for the Blind sends you either IRS Form 1098-C or a written acknowledgment. This document shows the sale price and is what you use to substantiate your charitable deduction if the value is more than $500.
Deduction usually equals sale price
In most cases, your charitable deduction is limited to the vehicle’s gross sale price, not a price guide estimate. There are some exceptions, but for typical Orlando donors, the amount listed on Form 1098-C is the amount you can claim if you itemize.
You must itemize on Schedule A
To benefit from a car donation tax deduction, you must itemize deductions on Schedule A of your federal tax return. If you take the standard deduction instead, the car donation won’t reduce your taxable income, even though it still supports charity.
Receipt timing vs. tax year
Your tax year is locked in by the pickup date, not the mailing date of your receipt. It’s normal for Orlando donors who schedule late-December pickups to receive their 1098-C in January or February and still claim the deduction for the prior tax year.
